Welcome to my website which I hope you will find interesting and enjoyable.
Sixteen plus years have passed by since the first In Camera book (F1 in Camera 1970-79) which featured the F1 images of the remarkable Rainer Schlegelmilch, whose input and ability across the genre will surely never be surpassed.
The first serious motor race I attended was the 1961 Tourist Trophy at Goodwood watching Stirling Moss beat Mike Parkes, both in Ferrari 250GT SWBs and again in 1962 when Innes Ireland finished 1st in the UDT Laystall Ferrari 250 GTO. Three years later I travelled by tube, railway and bus to the first British GP at Brands Hatch, a fabulous meeting. In the years that followed I attended many other events including another TT and later was fortunate enough to be a British GP regular up to 1987 but gave up after this except for 1995 and 2002.
For many years I frequented assorted British international and national meetings and of course the wonderful events held by the VSCC of which I am a member. In latter years researching and writing the books has become a priority and these days I usually only attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival, Nürburgring Oldtimer and the bi-annual Monaco Historique and Le Mans Classic.
I have been very fortunate to have enjoyed the patronage, support and encouragement of many, the list of which would fill the page. It began with Paul Skilleter and a shared interest in Jaguars and later I met and worked for Karl Ludvigsen who made my first book Jaguar at Le Mans published by Haynes possible. In tandem with this I was writing Sixties Motor Racing with Mike Cooper for Simon Draper at Palawan Press.
From there it progressed to my second book with Haynes under Mark Hughes which began the " in Camera " series and in 2009 I completed RACES FACES PLACES for Mike’s widow Liz Cooper, son Ben and daughter Jo with other input from friends Michael Turner, Anthony Hussey and Dexter Brown.
It has been my privilege to have enjoyed all this and the generous responses of many who have supported me and those who bought these tomes, thank you.
